Its been a while since i made any entries in this blog thingie of mine. So why not start with a nice little movie review. Ghost rider. I've been keen on watching the movie for a while and the movie is, well. . . . interesting.
Lets start from the beginning. Johnny and Barton Blaze work in a carnival doing motorcycle stunts. Big surprise there. The twist tho is that johnny trades his soul to the devil because his father is dying of cancer. his father ends up dying anyways. another big surprise there. so the devil gains johnny as his lackey for when he needs him. now he wants johnny to help get him to retrieve an item before this dude with an overcoat who wouldnt look out of place in a matrix sequel. basically its a simple hollywood storyline covered with a topping of celebrities to help sell the movie. no surprise there either. and nick cage acts like he always does - like nick cage. so why watch this movie anyways? well, if your a fan of ghost rider, then you definitely dont wanna miss this because the riding scenes kick ass. seriously. ever see flames burning underwater?
the motorcycle stunts in this movie are very well made. at least they didnt resort to completely 3-ding everything like they often do these days to make things too fantastic. but then again this is ghost rider, so things will get fantastic in due time. at least there is a healthy mix of realism and fantasy in this aspect. and the motorcycles really does look very cool. i'll admit i'm not a big bike guy, but this movie makes them choppers look good.
so how good is nick cage in this movie? well, if you've ever seen a nick cage movie, then you probably can guess his performance in this one. lets we move on to eva mendes. she helps make this movie look good. there seems to be a lot of emphasis on her cleavage tho. half the time she's one screen its in your face. no complains about it, just that they didnt need to resort to that to gain our attention. she looks good enough already.
my biggest gripe with the movie tho is that it feels rushed. the action scenes feel kinda short and i wish the fight scenes were longer. its just ghost rider kicking butt all the way. i wish they had tore up the city with ghost riderly fighting action. but ghost rider does look good. and seeing him ride around the bike just looks cool.
i cant say that this movie was bad because it wasn't. just seeing ghost rider on screen doing what he does is already worth the ticket price. its just that the movie leaves you needing more. wouldn't mind a sequel to this one. lets hope theres more fight scenes next time around
